Honestly, It really does matter MORE on steps they took to come up with the design than just the look.



Most would look at a cool signature and think "Oh Wow! this is so AWESOME!!".

Someone who KNOWS stuff about Photoshop may think it's cool too...........but would also wonder, how many premade graphics did they incorporate?



Built into photoshop are default brushes and Shapes. The shapes are Vector images which are images that can be resized indefinetly because their shape is determined by an algorithm.....not pixels like Raster graphics are.

Now,
There is a good handful of shapes and brushes in photoshop to suit any need, but sometimes you want some more for the look you want. So you go and download some and/or create your own.

And this is where the problem lies.



Nowdays, getting ahold of custom made Vectors and brushes are easier than they EVER been.
If you want some fire in your picture and you want it to look like REAL FIRE, all one needs to do is to simply find and download a brush set of realistic looking fire.
Or what if you wanted a picture of a butterfly but you didn't want to draw it out? Download a vector of it and touch it up in photoshop and you're done!

This is why this is a determining factor.

It's too easy to get premade stuff out there that has already been made for you.
Does it REALLY show your skill if you use a TON of graphics in your creations that have been made by someone else? IM NOT SAYING DONT USE THEM AT ALL!!!!!
I LOOOOOOOVE Grunge Backgrounds. It makes it an instant awesome piece.
I just feel however, you should limit the ammount that you go to use.




I feel the TRUE ingenuity of the artist that works with art Programs shows in their ability to create as much of the content by their own merit. Me? I try not to use special effect brushes. If I want lightning, I make it using the Pencil or pen tool. I dont use pre existing Lightning brushes.

Now, Dex and Vega can create some fine stuff............but for me, it boils down to who actually "made" the majority of their signature. If one only put a gradient background, then put the character or subject in.....and then cut and pasted some shiny stuff from the internet as one single layer then that is the deturming factor.

not to mention that most of the ones I saw Dext had were small and had less effects vega just gave the whole package deal. You can notice some dots weren't erased from some, then look at vegas, he cleaned them all up perfectly.

I personally don't value criticism whatsoever unless
it's purely constructive.
That's one reason why I DON'T LIKE judging signature
competitions.
At the most, I wouldn't mind saying, e.g.
Excellent work! It's a bit dark, it would be even better
if you decreased the contrast and added a lighter
tint. I do like how you've added the shadows and lights, etc.
Overall, great work! Keep it up.

But meh...guess this just isn't my kind of thread.
Carry on, and be awesome.
And yeah, I know how long it takes to make a signature.
(Not as long as a poster though.... )

Vega is obviously the superior sig maker here. You would also be convinced so if you were on FFC, where he made some amazing stuff. No offense, Dex.

You should get both Dexter and Ace fire's permission for this though '-'
