Basically, we've been a member of the European Union for 43 years. Most of the older generation, mostly those who were around 43 years ago, started getting bored of how we were pretty much bossed around by the EU because we had to use a lot of their laws. If we didn't like one or two, we would attempt to negotiate a deal that seems right for us. Eventually, one party here thought it would be easier if we just got out of the EU and became independent, so the prime minister went across the continent to try to see if we can get a referendum to leave or stay, much like what the Scottish got almost two years prior. While a lot of the younger generation thought that leaving would hurt the economy and even relations with the rest of Europe.

Then eventually, we had the referendum and we voted to leave. I think 51% to 49%, but I could be a bit wrong, but it was just about that close. The day after, the pound dropped to its lowest since the recession 8 years ago. The same day, the prime minister, who wanted to remain, decided to resign and now we're basically back to being run by the Queen until October while we figure out who should be his successor.

BUT now we have Scotland wanting another referendum so they don't have to leave as they voted to remain.

I voted to leave. Not because of immigration or laws or anything. I just didn't like the prime minister. Plus, I liked the idea of having our own Independence Day, especially with Resurgence first showing in cinemas the day of the vote. No Idea I expected the economy to be affected at first, but I also expected that it would heal soon and that we might negotiate to stay with the EU in some way or another. Only now we have more people I don't really like stepping up to be the next prime minister, pretty much. Just can't win.

Now I assume the reason X hasn't commented yet is because, even though it's almost 5am, he's still typing up a 100-page essay as usual since he wanted to remain. Too Funny

Oliver.....we're not really ruled by the Queen as far as I know lol.
David Cameron is still the prime minister until October
when he will resign and be replaced with another person. (Possibly even WORSE than Cameron.)

I voted remain (as the lesser evil).
The EU is both corrupt AND good in some aspects.
I'm still not 100% sure about my decision
as I see conflicting pros and cons and a lot
of missing information regarding what would happen
if we leave the EU long term.

The EU provides regulations and human rights
that this current British right wing (terrible) Conservative government
would try to go against once we leave.

Human rights would be replaced with a watered down
"British bill of rights" and when they replace something
that isn't broken, you know they're trying to
water it down for their pro-corporate fascist agenda.

The EU provides environmental regulations (e.g. global warming reduction rules)
as well as product regulations that help to maintain
product quality and safety.
Then there's workers' rights (not amazing but better than what the Conservatives would
do to workers).

So if we leave the EU (leave vote won and although the
referendum wasn't legally binding, we're still likely to leave
since it was a democratic election with a relatively big turnout)

then at that point in time, there's a real danger of the Conservatives (Aka Tories)
damaging the environment, workers rights, human rights,
product safety and quality.

There's also the issue of lost jobs
as companies would move from London and other
business heavy places
to other parts of Europe
as well as possibly immigration-control
leading to less foreigners contributing to businesses
and services such as the NHS (National Health Service).
(Since a significant % of doctors in the NHS are foreign.)

There were nasty/corrupt people
on BOTH sides of the debate
so that tells you it's either
deception on both sides
or there's a risky set of multiple paths
either way.....hope the best route is taken
but it's not looking good.

I admit it was a somewhat difficult decision
with how little information there was available
about the remain vs leave peoples' agendas.

But I suspect leave is more risky.

The only thing I agreed with the Leave camp
on was that it was UNdemocratic
to be partially ruled by non-democratically elected officials
in the EU.
But we're not such a great democracy ourselves
in the UK (nor most other modern countries like the U.S.
as evident with all this rigging going on with Bernie vs Hillary for example).
For example the First Past The Post (FPTP) voting system
is not as democratically valid as the Alternative Vote (AV) system.
As well as accusations of postal votes being stolen
and illegal over-spending on campaigns by the Conservatives.
I think the Conservatives won with only 24%
and they may have technically cheated to even get that! Troll Face

On the remain side we had people like: (bad = people with unfair right wing agendas)

-David Cameron (bad)
-George Osborn (bad)
-Jeremy Corbyn (good....but rumours say he was forced to take the remain side
since he was a Euroskeptic for years...who knows)

In fact most of the Conservatives (right wing) and nearly all of Labour (kind of left wing)
were backing Remain.
(Which makes it seem like an establishment preference....)
And also people like Hillary Clinton (bad)
Goldman Sachs (bad)
also supported remain.

But then again....we got good/bad guys on the leave side TOO:

-George Galloway (I think he's a good guy....he's left wing at least)
-Jeremy Corbyn's brother (good although it's odd that two left wing brothers disagreeing....apparently)
-Boris Johnson (bad)
-Michael Gove (bad)
-Nigel Farage (bad)
-Rupert Murdoch (bad) (right wing media empire tycoon)

So it was a tough choice
but things like workers rights, jobs,
environmental/product regulations, etc.
made me not want to risk it.
Hence I only had a slight desire to leave
but mostly wanted to remain to avoid
the fascist agenda that seems likely
to come soon after we leave. Misery

The Conservatives are in charge for another
4 years or so. Seriously
They can cause a lot of damage.

I stand by my vote which was remain. Razz
I think those regulations block the Conservatives
being even more right wing.

Also, the fact the leave campaign was
lying A LOT with misleading figures,
disregarding what "experts" had to say
as well as the "anti-immigration"
propaganda just put me off even considering to vote to leave.

Immigration has nothing to do with the financial
problems of the UK.
It's a scapegoat used by the right wing establishment
to place the blame of what THEY have WILLINGLY done
to the country, onto immigrants who largely
pay their taxes like anyone else. (I can't say the same about the establishment....)
Lol even David Cameron was found out to be evading tax! Troll Face
He's a hypocrite!
Anyway, I knew that either way
normal people were going to suffer
but with a leave vote (which unfortunately won by over a million votes)
we're in serious danger of human rights, workers rights, etc.
being watered down by the Conservatives.

Even worse,
Jeremy Corbyn (a true left winger)
is in a state of mutiny with most of his party MPs
betraying him and asking him to resign.
HECK NO!!!!

It's Corbyn that would lessen the damage of
a Conservative government.

Over 200,000 people signed
a petition online to go against
the coop against Corbyn.

If they challenge Corbyn,
I'll probably register with the Labour party
and vote for Corbyn to remain as leader.
He's effectively the Bernie Sanders of the UK.

The Labour party (left wing)
is currently infested with right wing
MPs (sometimes referred to as "Blairites" or NEOlibs / NEOcons).

I think those fake left wingers need to get out
of the Labour party and make their own
Conservative-lite party because
Labour is SUPPOSED TO BE LEFT WING.

Hence why people like Jeremy Corbyn should stay in that
party as its roots were left wing.

Even the corporate mainstream media
has smeared against Corbyn
with accusations of racism (anti-semitism).

It's just disgusting what they're getting away with.

I hope the people vote for Corbyn to stay.
Another excuse for those corrupt MPs to go against
Corbyn was because they claim "he wasn't convincing"
to Labour voters in terms of persuading people
to vote remain since leave won....

But statistics prove that they are lying
and Corbyn did a good job in his constituency.
Besides, the EU referendum was largely debated
in a right wing platform which was just
not interesting to left wingers like me
who know the right wing establishment are a bunch
of lying self-serving propagandists.

I hope the coop fails.
There's rumours the coop MAY be
due to the fact the Chilcot Inquiry gets
published in a month (what a coincidence eh?)
which is an investigation
on Labour's involvement with the illegal
Iraq war.
Guessing those MPs don't want to go to jail....hmmm....
Well anyway, if Labour kick Corbyn out,
I will vote Green party.

I'm sick of NEOcons infecting left wing parties.
The democrats are supposed to be the left wing
alternative to the republicans in the U.S. for example....
yet they're BOTH very right wing.
Even by European standards, they're considered extremely right wing.
I mean....America still doesn't have universal health care! scratch

And in less serious news.....
Regarding the referendum on whether to remain or
leave the European Union.....

Hom has spoken.

BREXIT. Please explain. 16snfh10 I guess that's one alternative to the EU.Seriously

What does Hom think about Corbyn's party
mostly betraying him?

BREXIT. Please explain. 16sni210 I wonder why.Seriously

What do you think of traitors?

BREXIT. Please explain. 3riezy10

Viking Hom, do you have any closing statements?

BREXIT. Please explain. Bmnskn10

Classic Hom.No Idea
But obviously Hom didn't say any of this. (No idea what he voted....if he voted)
I haven't heard from him for ages.
Mafia business I expect. Think

The UK voted 51.9% leave (over 17M votes) vs 48.1% remain (over 16M votes).
of course many people didn't register
and even some of those who did register, didn't vote.

Hey Blair.
Looking back, it's possible I'd have voted
leave because of the messed up stuff
like the EU army they're trying to push for and other
corrupt projects.
But there wasn't enough info on
what exactly would happen if we left the EU.

I think there could have been good and bad
pathways for a Brexit.
Under the Tories, it would benefit the super rich
rather than us, normal people.

Under Jeremy Corbyn, (from Labour)
I'd trust him whether we were in or out of the EU.
He's a good guy, most politicians aren't.

But Theresa May is like Thatcher and Clinton, absolutely soaked in corruption.
(Well, so was Cameron but in slightly different ways.)
But it's the same product, just different packaging.
Same old lying Tories.

Theresa May has pushed for
the Snooper's Charter (Investigatory Powers Act)
which has now taken effect. pale

Now the government can spy on its people
by hacking into our phone/TV/PC cameras, microphones,
hack into our PC files, e-mails,
save our browsing history, etc.
Very Orwellian. Seriously

Freedom of speech, privacy and security are doomed if we don't do something about
this. Seriously

I urge people to vote for Jeremy Corbyn in the next UK general election.

On another negative note...

Ahhh what a nice Christmas present to us students
from this corrupt Tory government....
an extra £250 a year in tuition fees starting from 2017.... Jelous
Although I'm more annoyed at the other £9,000 we have to pay each year...
This just seems like rubbing salt in our wounds. Bored

But yeah this government is terrible,
look at all the homelessness, poverty,
dumb airstrikes against Syria,
ruining our NHS with privatisation, etc. Seriously

What a nightmare. Banging
