Announced just the other day, Hyperkin’s Retron 5 can play original cartridges from 9 different retro consoles, yes! 9!




The RetroN 5 was officially announced at MGC on 23rd March. It is a console where you can play 9 different retro consoles, and will be coming in June. Here are the consoles you are able to play:

NES
SNES
Surper Famicom
Genesis
Mega Drive
Famicom
Gameboy Advance
Gameboy Colour
Gameboy



CONTROLLERS

At the side of the console, there are 6 ports for controller input, SNES, Genesis and NES (2 each). Something else which is very interesting, is that you can use a SNES controller to play Genesis games, which is highly convenient if you randomly own a SNES controller and just decided to buy Genesis games.

But that’s not all. The console also has it’s own wireless Bluetooth controller, sleek and modern looking but also has that classic look to it. You may think it’s a bit ugly, but remember, it has to accommodate for 9 different systems. It has a connectivity distance of 15ft, like all controllers nowadays it features a D- pad, shoulder buttons, 6 face buttons a home button and 4 LED lights (for player number, believe it or not.) It will also have a lithium ion battery which can be recharged by USB, via micro USB.

The home button functions like the PS3 with two functions, to connect the controller to the console, and also to access the user interface.

The UI may not be as fancy as the infamous XMB or the pretty Live area, but it is very simple, clear and easy to understand. Which is just want from a system like this, quick to access and good for simple people like me!



The RetroN has some interesting features, one of the most annoying things about the Gameboy games I played was the saving. During some games, the save points were what it seemed like, light years apart. With the RetroN 5 however, you can save state at whatever time you like, and even better when you switch off the console, the system makes a save state automatically on its own!

Now if you were to buy a SNES, NES, Genesis, Gameboy /Colour/Advance and more and somehow engineer them to work on your TV, you’d be spending quite a bit. Well no, the RetroN will cost around $100/£65.

WOAH thats a amazing I had no IDEA they were making this I got like aroun 50/80 games from all those consoles I saved them because I always thought someday I would buy the consoles again but with this new console AM SET and that last picture with all the consoles NICE

Yeah, I'm just wondering. What would be the point when the Wii and Wii U e-Shop Channels have NES, SNES Genesis, N64 etc. games for WAY cheaper? All you have to do is buy an e-Shop Card for £15-20, enter the code, and BOOM! You have up to 2900 points! Depending on which card you got.

AND the DS and 3DS have their own e-Shops (Dunno how to get the DS' e-Shop, though) with retro handheld games like the Game & Watch Gallery, Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland etc.

BUT! I guess it would be useful for when I feel like playing Super Mario Land and I don't feel like borrowing my brother-in-law's GBA.

Dunno if I'll get this or not... £65 seems good. I'll probably get about £60 for my birthday anyway. And luckily for me, I've already got a few of my sister's old NES games AND her controllers. And since the NES no longer works.

Super Mario Bros. AND Duckhunt, yo! Along with Kirby's Adventure, Ikari Warriors and a racing game. Though I don't know where that's gone.

I still have both. Though I lost the PC version of the Spongebob Movie Game. I still have the PS2 version, though. Planktopolis is STILL the hardest level.

@oli Nah i only had the ps2 version.I used cheats to unlock every level.The battle with king neptune was annoying even with my se xy guitar

I finally hacked my vita and i have a gba emu a mame emu and a snes emu.And on the top roms i see the minish cap

Minish Cap is alright, I guess. I haven't really gotten far in it.

I probably would've said "Mother 3", but that's Japan only. You CAN play an emulated version of it in English. But that's not really my kind of game, even though it's like Pokemon without the Pokemon, and I like Pokemon, to me it's... eh.

@Hex: Not arguing (I used to hate Pokemon, too), but how can you hate Diamond when it's got Dialga? It's like the COOLEST Pokemon ever!

it gets boring after you catch Dialga and all that time I spent trying to find that pokemon pfft yea it gets boring and one dude broke my ds so I got a new one and had to get all my pokemon all over again and it takes to long for them to evolve

And weird, cause when I got MY copy of the game, it had a save file already on it. And yes, it's my sister's DS, but I don't remember my sister being called Dan.
