| I highly doubt X uses a program apart from maybe his scanner. I just draw on a piece of paper, take a picture of it, upload it to GIMP, and then finish it off on there.
I'm still waiting for Undelos to answer my question about GIMP. I sent her a PM 24 hours ago. She's been online at least twice in that time, and STILL hasn't answered it! |

| I used digital image pro for a really long time... it was pretty nice at the start, it does good at cartoony stuff... recently (i think i've only colored 2 thing using this one) i've used corel painter essentials it has a burn and dodge tool and i recommend to everyone ever to use the burn and dodge tool xD it does shading wonders xD For both of those, i just take a picture or scan my artwork, then i draw over it (or in painter essentials you can use the trace image and it puts the image over the coloring so you can still see the lines and stuff I never do lineart though... i either go big (color it fully) or go home (just the paper sketch). Photoshop i've heard is awesome, i've watched a lot of photoshop tutorials and the tools are amaaazing! But adobe illustrator (same company as Photoshop) is way confusing... (at least it is for me)... it draws in vectors while i like drawing in pixels more haha But if you get discouraged by any program being lame or too hard, either change, or give it time... some people spend they're whole lives figuring out digital imaging programs xD |

I'm still waiting for Undelos to answer my question about GIMP. I sent her a PM 24 hours ago. She's been online at least twice in that time, and STILL hasn't answered it! Yeeeeeeaaah......see...
This is why I go Incognito whenever I get on here to check on the forums 60% of the time....
Just because it may SHOW that I've been on here for about 10-15 minutes........forumotion displays it FAR LONGER than someone really is. I may have only been on here for 30 seconds to 2 minutes but it will continue to display my name for 5 or more minutes. Thats just how it is.
Not only that, My job consumes ALMOST ALL of my free time. I dont get home until 6 or 7 in the evening.......and BECAUSE I have to wake up at 4:00 in the morning each day, I'm dead tired by 9 pm. You think you hate it? I HATE IT! I hate it more than you do.
But I have to deal with it because its the ONLY thing that I hate about the job, versus running the risk of getting another just to find out that there are now 3 more things to hate about the new one versus just hating one about the first.
So plz. Gimmie a break.
You know I wouldnt do this intentionally...
Now, as far as developing your skills in a digital art program, you should go with something easy to get ahold of and to grasp.
I suggest GIMP or Sai like Grumpz said. I hear alot of up and coming artists use Sai and GIMP. I was just lucky to have an uncle with a version of Photoshop 7.0 that he gave to me back when I was 13. Been working in it ever since.
Its best to start early and not be super critical when you cant exactly get it to come out the way that you want. It will be like that for a while so do what you can to make it come out the best way that you like. It will just improve with time. |

| Oh, and to address your 4 PM's about the same thing....
One, If I were on my phone, I DEFINETLY wouldn't have been able to help you because of reason number Two: I dont understand GIMP.
It's the reason I dont use it because I see it as cumbersome and bulky. Also, Its more part of the fact that because I've been so conditioned to using Photoshop for so many years, Its not easy to transfer between the two due to the fact that both programs are designed and set up differently.
So going back to your first pm,
I read it. And did the only feasible option I had:
Boot up GIMP and mess with the options just like you did.
I'm assuming you had the text on its own layer since, well, I didnt run into the same issue. I'm sure I would eventually.....but being that I keep a *coughburphackehrmcough* version of Photoshop ALWAYS ready for installation.......I dont have to worry about Learning GIMP... |

| As someone who usually uses Gimp for graphics stuff, Photoshop looks more confusing... It's like it takes unnecessary steps and the layout is kinda ugly, don't know how to explain it well. Maybe I'm just biased. |
