PS2 Games will so be playble thru the harddrive not a disc

For those of you who actively follow the PS3 scene, you will already know about this but recently developer Flatz released the algorithm to making PS2 Iso files into PS2 Classics.




So what does this mean for the every day user? Well, nothing on its own but within a few short days of this release, multiple developers have worked with this, and have released GUI’s that allow you to do all the converting you could wish for. What this boils down to is that anybody can now take any PS2 game they own, rip the ISO from the disc, convert it into a PS2 Classic and boot it from ANY model PS3 on CFW.

Personally, I love this. It’s something I’ve wanted for so long since when I purchased my 80gb PS3 it was the later model without the option to play PS2 games, but now with the release of this, it’s possible for anyone with any PS3 model as long as they have CFW.

That’s not all though, Spewfr made a command-line GUI that will allow you to run your PS2 games directly from the XMB meaning no MultiMAN or any other loader required. You can read more on that here.

On the subject of booting games from the XMB comes RetroXMB. This hasn’t been released yet, but Unknown Archive posted a teaser video on YouTube. What this allows you to do is to directly boot roms from your XMB (name kinda gave that away, right?). It works off of the RetroArch Emulator. This is certainly something to look forward to in future.



nd on a final note, Qoobz recently released PS1toXMB meaning, if you plan to play any form of retro game that’s supported through RetroArch, PS1 or PS2 you’ve no need whatsoever to enter another loader.

Some very nice additions are coming our way, so make sure to keep an eye on things!
