whats the deal with it? he said it was the only other thing that was in canon with the StarWars series.

No. Disney getting the rights to it does not guarantee it being a good movie. In fact, it could suck, who knows (Though I doubt it).
It's because it's JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy are directing and producing, respectively. Both, btw, phenomenal director/producers. If it had still been written/directed by George Lucas, then the reaction would be different.
