| I had to let you guys know, My laptop is down. The computer that I am using is my Backup laptop. I had to send it to a Computer Store to get it diagnosed. Remember when I said the Display went out? Well It went out again 2 days ago. This time, I couldn't fix it by simply Reinstalling my Driver.
This time, I need to know whether it is my Seperate (Dedicated) video card...........or in fact my Motherboard.
Until I get it fixed, I wont be able to meet you guys in game again for a very long time. |

| Got the Results back.
Apparently the RAM on my Video Card has gone bad. I cant begin to tell you how much I want that to be the ONLY Issue with my computer. I love my silver buddy so much. I've been Meaning to upgrade to a higher version in the Quadro FX series anyways.....
Right now, the technician says its gonna cost well over $300 dollars (Convert it yourselves UK residents 'cause I converted it wrong the last time....) to fix. Don't know whether its for parts AND labor but I know that Ive been searching up other Video Cards for the longest time recently and I know that I can find a 1500m series online for only $50. I dont know where this guy is getting his figures from.
Oh well. I guess I'll have to attempt to replace it myself.... |

| I'm from france so it's €.... anyway..... Some computer technicians like to overprice stuff. Correct me if I'm wrong but maybe the model is incorrect??? Maybe the one he was charging for was of a higher "clockspeed" or "video ram" oh lol I sound so weird using this technical language... SO SUE ME. You'll never catch meh. :bananalama: So yeah ..... . . .. . . . . ...clock speed (I think it's the mhz - I researched this stuff recently lol) and video ram is sorta obvious. (MB!!) ...everyone knows that... Know any computer savvy ppl? X, you, my uncle, Doc Ock, my cousin, you all seem to be the best at this stuff... well apart from Doc Ock...he just does graphics...but you never know...he might be a AN IDIOT computer genius... |

| Don't want to ruin your excitement but $300 on a graphics card?? You can easily get a much faster card with more VRAM that is cheaper. (video memory) But with that price tag I would have gotten an ATI HD5960, although the HD5999 is probably the best performing ATI card so far, it's very loud so the HD5960 is a good choice. (better than my card any way which is a HD5650 - still great though but is bottle-necked by my 'laptop standard' processor) But there are other factors to consider such as your power supply, cooling system and risking bottle necking your card if your processor doesn't match its awesomeness. (my processor is nowhere near as good as my graphics card, thus, I get bad performance in Crysis on maxed out settings and high resolutions :/) The HD5960 is available in 1GB and 2GB versions, both well under $300 each. Maybe you can return your card and get a faster, better and cheaper card. (and more future proof) But of coarse if you're happy with your purchase then great! Remember there are January sales right now. Lol really?? $700 for that card??? The best cards in the world are under $800 new. (some are like 4GB ...even 6GB dedicated O_O) Something's not right here, what websites are you checking? I'm sure electronic equipment is quite cheap in America? |

| Oh $85. Lol but I'd still go with an ATI card. Let me explain with some benchmarks prices: I'm sure you'll have second thoughts...ever so slightly... http://best-gaming-computers.blogspot.com/2011/04/best-gaming-graphics-cards-for-money.html This is a 512mb card right? |

| The ones in the link are much better lol. Anything with 512mb dedicated or above is decent. (you do have to consider clock speed and number of shaders, pixel shader version etc. but the dedicated graphics memory is one of the fundamental aspects of choosing a good graphics card) 1024mb / 1GB dedicated should do nicely, until Crysis 4 comes out or something. |

| IT CAME IN!!! I'M SO HAPPY!!1However.....I do have to say the excitement only lasted for about a while. As I got help getting it fitted in, found out that it wasnt an exact fit. The metal covering on the 1600 card had an irregular shape from the 1500 series. 1500m Series:The 1500 is practically a complete rectangle whereas the 1600 series had an extra bit that sits at the corner of the card. Looking at the picture below, you can see it. 1600m Series: Anyways, that plus a couple of other issues were merely just minor set backs. Like I said, I'm getting help with it. There is some stuff I found out about my computer that if I would have attempted it on my own, I SERIOUSLY WOULD HAVE MESSED IT UP. So, a guy at the Lab tech Center is helping me out with it. He says he's doing it for the learning experience since he'll be graduating soon. He also said since I had to already shell out $85 bucks for it, he wasn't going to charge me in the least. I guess he values the experience since this might be the first time he has worked on a "Business" Laptop.
Yeah. I Found why my Laptop is so "Shpeshul..."
There are "Consumer" laptop models that are known for being non-upgradable. The Video Card (usually nothing special) and the Processor are built (integrated) on the board and cannot be replaced. "Business" models or "Workstations" (<==If I'm correct on that one..) are built for the work place and are designed to be upgraded, within the limits of Laptop-ness of course. My M90 has a separate video card as well as an Upgradable Processor. However Business models still have their limits. I can only upgrade to the latest Core 2 Duo in the series, but it cant accept a i3, i5, or i7.
Sucks. But Im still happy. My Dell Precision has a much longer shelf life than most computers because of its upgradability versus most, if not all other Consumer Laptops that can only have their RAM upgraded.
But gotta wait for tomorrow for the final verdict on my Precision since the guy that was helping me out also had stuff to do today...
I dont know If I can take this waiting game anymore... |

| Well! Got it back and........well. It's a rather Bittersweet moment.
Seems like I got a bit of a trade off with this card. 1.) It doesnt show up in my BIOS really. It only shows up as Unknown Video Card. 2.) It takes forever and a half to turn on, probably because this card isnt exactly for this model. 3.) My backlight sometimes fails to work.
But like I said, It is still a trade off since I did only pay $85 bucks for it and it works halfway deciently.
I found the actual compatible Cards for my system, and lets just say, I REALLY dodged a bullet with getting this 1600m. The others in the Quadro FX series that are compatible with my Workstation are the 3000m and the 2500m and they cost quite a pretty penny even on eBay.
So coming out of this deal with a Card with Specs a bit better than my 1500m and half works better than my other that half works is...........well...........tolerable deal.
Besides...I can always get either the 2500m or 3000m another day. |

| Another day? ATI FTW. Just realised your card is an Nvidia, they apparantly don't last long past a year or two. (I've never had one so I' don't know for sure) Why get an $85 256mb fairly unpopular, fairly bad, troublesome card when you can get an awesome, fast, 512mb - 1024mb popular ATI card for like $40 - $100 easily? Aren't they compatible with your computer? Ask that tech guy, he'll know what what I'm talking about, those cards are like 2 or 3 tiers higher than your quadro! Dude, be honest, are you an Nvidia fanboy? die hard fan? (well there are much better and cheaper Nvidias out there) You have declared graphics WAR. Just kidding, the only thing stopping me from getting an Nvidia is the claim about them not lasting. I'm sure you will ignore ALL the above as you have done with my previous posts regarding the ATI's better! you should get a better card for less money uh..concept. Lol. Fine, that's ok. I just wanted to help, you enjoy your graphics card mate but you deserve better with the money you're prepared to spend and the fact you're handy on photoshop and similar graphic intense programs. |

| Actually.....I am considering your sugestion. It seems like I have to keep my computer in standby to avoid it cutting off its backlight because when its backlight doesn't come on, It takes FOREVER and a half and 15 hard reboots to get it back on.
Nah. Im not a fan of Nvidia. I just decided to go with the same brand that was already in here to avoid compatibility error but thanks for the flattery!
With the list of compatible Nvidia cards, it also came with a set of other cards that are compatible as well: ATI X1400, GeForce Go 7900 GS / 7900 GTX / 7950 GTX
So yeah. I'll probably try those when I have the money. Hopefully more sooner than later... |

| Well. That was short lived.
Seems the Incompatibility issue was a bigger problem than I thought.....'cause now this card doesnt operate correctly. We think it is a Driver issue. I'm not sure whether it is a fault with the card itself because it is not compatible with my computer in the first place.
Luckily though, we found out it Dual screens just fine and that can also jump start the original display into working. Of course out of 6 times of rebooting it, Dual Screening to an external monitor to get it to work, about 4 out of the 6, the screen came on...........but none out of the 6 operated the Backlight.
So thats ultimately the only downside. Other than that, I'm glad its still useable.... |
